Snow falling on our cedars

(download)
It looks like it's going to be a white Christmas after all. The streets are quiet, the snow buffers all sound and gives landscape a kind of peaceful silence. This winter has started with a few decent blizzards, causing massive traffic delays.

Our garden is covered in a thick white blanket, covering the greenhouse. The last tomatoes and potatoes have been rescued. It was a beautiful morning today.

I'd like to wish all of you a wonderful and merry week to look forward to Christmas. Drive safely and dont forget to play in the snow.

Luxembourg Airport

Arriving at Luxembourg Airport with KLM from Amsterdam. There were quite a few people shooting this beautiful sunset last Sunday, it'd be interesting to see their photographical interpretations. Anyone?

Autocars Zenners : Bus design

(download)

I finally managed to take a few pictures of the most recent bus visuals I designed for Autocars Zenners in Luxembourg.
The bus is used for public and school transportation on a regular route. In designing the bus, I drew all the individual houses of the village of Wintrange, so kids getting on the schoolbus could recognize their home. It also maps out the vineyards and a part of the route the bus takes on an hourly schedule.
This is the third bus I worked on for Autocars Zenners, following a few busses I designed for city busses in Ã…rhus, Denmark.

The dividing line

(download)

Although I'm not sure what the exact intentions were when building these partly roofed concrete pillars not far from our studio, I assume they were meant for parking cars. As good as the intention may be, I continuously observe that one car keeps taking up two parking spaces. Looking closer at the layout of this structure, I realize two things: it's made of rough concrete (not smooth moulded) and the pillars are rectangular. Combine this with a narrowly measured double Parking space between each pillar and no ground marking for a visual parking space division (e.g a white line), it makes me realize that it's not a selfish act of car owners to take up all this precious space, but rather an unintentional miscommunication from an spacial interface point of view.

If these pillars had a slight more space between each other, I'd like to think it would make drivers park closer to those rough pillar edges, thus offering the extra space for another car. But since they're already built, a simple white line might do the trick.

What are your thoughts?

Poster button

P106

A printed poster showing new DVD releases next to a big screen invited these kids to "push the DVD buttons to play the movie on the screen". Frustrated, they complained to their mother, who pushed the poster herself and proclaimed: "it's broken, let's go".
